What is PAP Flap?
PAP stands for Profunda Artery Perforator, which is a type of breast reconstruction surgery that uses a patient’s own tissue to create a new breast.
This is a great choice to use for reconstruction after mastectomy for breast cancer. During the PAP operation, tissue from the medial thigh is transferred to make an aesthetically pleasing and natural breast. The PAP is typically an option when there is not enough abdominal tissue for a DIEP. Also, prior reconstructive efforts with DIEP or even a tummy tuck have made the DIEP unavailable are excellent reasons to choose a PAP flap.
